Abuja, July 29, 2010 (NAN) President Goodluck Jonathan returned to Abuja from Kampala where he attended the 15th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the AU.
This is the first AU Summit Jonathan has attended since he assumed office.
He was received at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport by senior government officials, including the Head of Service of the Federation, Mr Steve Oronsaye.
The Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Mike Oghiadomhe, ministers and other key government functionaries were also at the airport to receive him.
A statement by the presidential spokesman, Mr Ima Niboro said the President was to have returned last night but the trip was aborted when the President’s aircraft developed a minor technical fault soon after take-off.
According to the statement, the aircraft successfully returned to the Entebbe International Airport.
''By this morning, the fault has been fixed and President Jonathan, along with members of his entourage, flew back to the country.
''The President is in high spirits,’’ the statement added. (NAN)
