According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), an estimated 884 million people (approximately one in eight) in the world lack safe drinking water. Fifty per cent of projects in many developing countries fail due to lack of proper monitoring and maintenance. The result is that the water which projects were designed to provide do not reach the people.
