Abuja, Feb. 20, 2012 (NAN) The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Emeka Ihedioha, has congratulated Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko on his re-election as the Governor of Sokoto State.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Oke Epia, Ihedioha said Wamakko’s election was a confirmation of his popularity with the electorate.
``His election is a confirmation of his popularity among the electorate and a clear vote of confidence on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by the people of Sokoto state.
The Deputy Speaker commended the electorate for peacefully conducting themselves at the poll.
He noted that by ensuring a successful election, they have recorded their contribution to the gradual entrenchment of democracy in the country.
Ihedioha said INEC had once again confirmed its commitment to deepening the democratic process in the country.
He commended security agencies for maintaining law and order throughout the electioneering period and urged them to continue to maintain neutrality.
The legislator called on those who lost in the election to accept the verdict of the people in good faith and join hands with Wamakko to work toward the growth and development of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Wamakko polled 518,247 votes to beat ANPP’s candidate who got 131,048 votes out of 2,443,857 registered voters. (NAN)
